The quality of schools is another social determinant of health highlighted by HealthyPeople.gov. The quality of local schools is indicated here by the School Proficiency Index. The school proficiency index uses school-level data on the performance of 4th grade students on state exams to describe which neighborhoods have high-performing elementary schools nearby and which are near lower performing elementary schools. Values are percentile ranked and range from 0 to 100. The higher the score, the higher the school system quality is in a neighborhood. This template identifies communities with a school proficiency index of 25 or lower (in the bottom quartile) and provides accompanying charts of the corresponding number of uninsured children, and educational attainment of those over 25 in each area.
